Private Property, S. Carolina
| There is a band of merry men in the Carolinas. They are professional gold prospectors, and a bunch of class-act fellas. I recently got an invite to some prospect on some private property in South Carolina with these men. I spent two days with Kevin, Abearzz, John, and Dwight. The weather was nice, a little chilly at night, but we managed to stay warm around the fire, with John stoking flames that would have made the San Diego Fire Dept nervous. We had 4 dredges in the water, and each of us got some gold. Kevin got his first nugget from this creek, and it's a beauty. Early on Friday, he also picked up a nice flat flake, saw it sparkling in the sun on the bottom. We managed to get in 5-6 hours a day in the water. The wetsuits were out in full force, but you'd better add some more weight if you're wearing a 7mm... Kevin was caught dredging upside down, feet actually out of the water. I wish I had an underwater video camera... Abearzz has become quite proficient on his dredge, and I don't mean dredging. That man can hop up on that dredge, crank on the engine, and ride/steer that pig just about anywhere. Hey brother, I'm impressed! I managed to take a quick video of him in the act and will post it in the video section. Kevin sure knows how to keep prospectors happy... FEED THEM! He brought along some awesome venison tenderloins, beans, red potatos, and chili. His wife made the thickest brownies I've ever seen. Problem was that Abearzz practically slept with them (I was "guarding them"..). Hey Abearzz, were they good? It was good to chat with all of them around the campfire. Dwight told some funny old Navy, hunting, and fishing stories that kept us rolling. What a great guy, and prospecting at the young age of 60! All said, we had a great weekend. I recovered some gold and even better, had a great time just hanging out with the fellas. I'm still going through the concentrates, but will be sure to post some pictures when they're all cleaned up. If you ever get invited to prospect with this bunch, come hungry and ready to have a great time. Thanks fellas! |
