Contrary Creek, Mineral VA
I got to the creek at sunrise, packed up and headed down towards my spot. As soon as I got down into the creek, I looked downstream and saw a deer standing right in the middle. I grabbed the camera and got a pretty good shot of him looking right at me. I set up at the first tailing again and ran about 6 buckets. I only got a few very small pieces today. Some folks from PA showed up, about 12 in the group. Wayne and Mark came around 9 or so and set up near the second tailings with the group from PA. I did get a nice group photo for me and had a good chat. There were other folks that wanted to come down, but they couldn't make the trip. They decided to screen some dirt, put it in buckets and take it home for some them to pan out. I thought that was a pretty cool thing to do. There were all slinging dirt! I had to take off early to go to my son's baseball game in Gordonsville, but it was great to get out on the first real nice weekend of 2007.
